MacDrive's support for RAID is dependent on the type of RAID and how it is created.
Hardware RAID: MacDrive (any version) will offer support if the RAID has been created in hardware (using a RAID controller), as this is presented to Windows as a single volume.
Apple RAID: Most Mac-formatted software RAIDs are created with a Mac using Disk Utility. MacDrive 9 Pro offers the ability to access Mac-formatted Apple RAID. This includes striped, mirrored, and concatenated (spanned) sets.
Please note that other versions of MacDrive, including MacDrive 9 Standard or MacDrive 8, do not offer Apple RAID support. However, you can upgrade to MacDrive 9 Pro from any version, including MacDrive 9 Standard, via our online store.
For more information as to how to create a RAID with the Mac OS, please visit Apple's web site.
Other types of software RAID: CrossStripe Edition extends MacDrive to include support for striped Mac arrays created with ATTO ExpressStripe or AVID Drive Utility software. CrossStripe is based on MacDrive 6 technology and supports Windows 2000 and XP (SP 2) only.
With the exception of Apple RAID and the technology supported by CrossStripe, other software RAID setups are not supported by MacDrive.
Note for XP users: MacDrive only supports disks or RAID sets that are 2TB or less, due to the inherent limitations of XP. Connecting an Apple RAID which is a combined total of over 2TB will not work in this OS. We recommend updating your version of Windows or creating a smaller RAID set.
