Summary
One of the many things Media Boss can enable you to do get your MP3 songs transferred to your PSP. Some users of Media Boss, however, only have their music on CDs, and don't yet have their music made into MP3 files. This is a brief primer on making MP3 files from your music CDs using a popular free software package called CDex. There are many ways to get your music CDs made into collections of MP3 files; this is simply one common solution.
Important note:
Please note that this page is provided as a tutorial to get you started with Media Boss and a third-party product (CDex). Our technical support team cannot assist you with technical issues regarding CDex. For help using CDex, please visit the CDex author's web site. While there are newer versions of CDex available, we have found the v1.4 to be the most reliable across all operating systems that Media Boss users may have.
Step 1
Make sure you are using the latest version of Media Boss, then download and install CDex v1.4. Please be patient and allow up to ten seconds for the CDex download to begin.
Step 2
Open the CDex application. Press the [F4] key on your keyboard to open the CDex configuration window. In the configuration window, click on the Filenames tab. You will want to change the directory where CDex stores MP3 files. We suggest choosing the "My Documents\My Music" folder on your hard drive.
Step 3
Click on the "Remote CDDB" tab in the CDex Configuration window. Enter your email address in the E-mail address field, and check the Auto connect to remote CDDB box. Then, click the OK button to accept your settings and close the window.
Step 4
Insert the audio CD that you would like to copy into your CD-ROM drive. After doing this, allow CDex approximately 20-30 seconds to recognize the CD and gather information about it from the Internet. Once this is finished, click on the top MP3 button near the right edge of the window. Then, sit back and relax while your computer copies your audio CD and converts the music to MP3 files. When this has completed, close CDex and proceed to the next step.
Step 5
Launch Media Boss and ensure you you have the "My Documents\My Music" folder listed as a "Watched Folder". Media Boss will automatically detect the new music and it to your library. You can then select the song(s) you wish to copy to the PSP and click the "Copy to my PSP" button.
You're done! You've now successfully copied a music CD into your PSP using Media Boss and CDex!
